What is the ceiling fan transition trend?

By · Updated

The ceiling fan transition took off on TikTok in October 2026. The camera looks straight down from the ceiling at someone lying on a carpet next to the sofa. A fan blade sweeps across the lens, and when it has passed they are wearing something completely different. One version passed three million views in two weeks.

Doing it for real takes a phone taped to the ceiling, a few outfits and a lot of retakes to match the pose each time. That is why the AI version caught on: the pose stays perfectly still and only the clothes change.

Our generator makes it from one photo. We lay you on the carpet as seen from the ceiling, dress you in the outfit you pick, and animate the fan blade wiping between the two looks. It works for pets too, and, with a parent’s consent, for kids: a Halloween costume reveal is exactly what this trend is for.

How to make a ceiling fan transition AI video

Upload one clear photo, pick the outfit you want to change into and press Generate. Choose a silent clip if you want to add the trend’s sound in the app, or let us add a fan whoosh and a beat drop at the change. The video is ready in two to four minutes, and the page can stay open in a background tab while it renders.

We first lay you on a teal carpet next to a pink sofa, seen straight down from the ceiling, keeping your face, hair and clothes from the photo. Then we make the same shot in your new outfit and animate the change: you lie still for a few seconds, the fan blade sweeps across the lens, and you are in the new look, striking a little pose. The result is a 10-second, 9:16 video for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.

Tips for a clean outfit change

  • Use a full-body photo. The camera sees you from head to toe, so a head-only photo leaves the model guessing what you wear before the change.
  • One person per photo, facing the camera, with no sunglasses, so your face stays the same through the change.
  • Pick an outfit that looks very different from the clothes in your photo; the bigger the change, the better the reveal.
  • For pets, a sharp photo where the whole animal is visible works best.

Photos of kids

This effect is open to children, because a costume reveal is harmless family fun. Only a parent or legal guardian may upload a child’s photo: tick the box under the upload to confirm it. The photo, the images made from it and the video are deleted from our servers 30 days after the video is made, so download it before then. Every other photo rule in our content policy still applies.

What you get

  • A 10-second MP4, vertical 9:16, at 480p, ready for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
  • Six outfits to pick from, all at the same price.
  • Silent, or with a fan whoosh and a beat drop (no voices).
  • A price of 40 credits, and an automatic refund if generation fails.

Do you have to label AI videos on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram?

Yes, for realistic ones. A BlinkPop video puts a real face into a scene that never happened, which is exactly what the platforms ask you to disclose. Here is what each one says in its own words:

“We require creators to disclose AI-generated or altered content that seems realistic.”

— YouTube Help, Disclosing use of GenAI content

“The policy requires people to label AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio or video, in order to help viewers contextualize the video and prevent the potential spread of misleading content.”

— TikTok Newsroom, New labels for disclosing AI-generated content

“We will still display the "AI info" label for content we detect was generated by an AI tool.”

— Meta Newsroom, Our Approach to Labeling AI-Generated Content and Manipulated Media

In practice: switch on the platform's AI-generated label (or add "made with AI" to the caption) whenever you post a BlinkPop video, and only use photos of people who agreed to it.

FAQ

What happens in the video?

The camera looks down from the ceiling at you lying on a carpet. After a few seconds a ceiling fan blade sweeps across the lens, and when it has passed you are wearing the outfit you picked, in the same pose.

Can I use a photo of my child?

Yes, if you are their parent or legal guardian. Tick the box under the upload to confirm it. Photos and videos with a child are deleted from our servers after 30 days, so download the video before then.

Can I use my dog or cat?

Yes. Upload a clear photo of your pet and it lies on the carpet, then appears in a little costume after the fan blade passes.

Does the video have sound?

It is silent by default so you can add the trend’s sound when you post. You can choose a fan whoosh and a beat drop at the change instead, with no voices.

Can I change into more than one outfit?

Each video changes once, into the outfit you pick. Make a few videos with different outfits and join them in your editing app for a longer run.

How long does it take, and what does it cost?

Usually two to four minutes, for 40 credits. If the video fails, the credits go straight back to your account.
